A journey through drawings, models, and studies dedicated to the Portuguese master Fernando Távora, exploring how History and Landscape intertwine in architecture.
On the centenary of Fernando Távora’s birth, a central figure in Portuguese architecture and mentor to Álvaro Siza Vieira and Eduardo Souto de Moura, the Mantua Campus of Politecnico di Milano joins the international conversation with an exhibition and a publication in English. The volume In class with Távora. Teaching and Learning (Living). Today, edited by Barbara Bogoni and João Mendes Ribeiro, brings together key texts by the master and reflections that convey the deeply pedagogical value of his approach to “inhabitable architecture.” The exhibition, Távora: Architectures, Landscapes, Genealogies, curated by the Laboratorio Távora, showcases redrawn works and educational models of his projects, developed through studies by Italian and Portuguese faculty and students. Featuring large-scale drawings of buildings designed by Távora in Portugal and three-dimensional models, the exhibition pays tribute to the enduring relevance of his thinking, which weaves together modernity and tradition, history and landscape, and continues to inspire new generations of architects.
The exhibition also includes a selection of photographs by Alessandra Chemollo from Versione ridotta, first presented in 2004 at Ca’ Pesaro’s Galleria Nazionale di Arte Moderna, in the presence of Fernando Távora, Álvaro Siza Vieira, and Eduardo Souto de Moura.
