The research stems from an agreement between the Municipality of Verona (Art. 15, Law 241/90) and the UNESCO Research Lab at the Mantua Territorial Campus. Fifteen minor squares in the historic city center were identified—spaces that, despite retaining certain functions, have lost their character as public places and lack a strong identity. Their fragility is evident both in physical degradation and in uses that diverge from their original purpose.
The investigation spans multiple areas: historical reconstruction, morpho-typological analysis, and technical surveys, aiming to build a comprehensive framework and propose integrated intervention models. The local administration may draw inspiration from this work to implement good transformation practices that are consistent with the city’s history and aligned with medium- and long-term urban development strategies.
