This project aims to offer visitors and citizens of Mantua a new and interesting itinerary that reveals the beauty and historical-cultural value of its most iconic religious monuments, with the possibility of visiting spaces that have not been accessible until now.

At the center of this initiative is the Diocese of Mantua, which, together with the team of researchers from the Unesco Research Lab of the Politecnico di Milano, is developing an enhancement and accessibility project that will link together the Basilica of St. Andrew, the Basilica of St. Barbara, the Cathedral of St. Peter, the Bishop’s Seminary, the Diocesan Museum and the Roman excavations of Via Rubens into a single, fascinating itinerary.

This project, funded by the “Grandi Progetti Emblematici” call of Fondazione Cariplo and the Lombardy Region, goes beyond the physical restoration of the places and combines design for heritage fruition and accessibility with the historical, architectural, cultural and religious content of these places through innovative storytelling techniques.

Digital storytelling, including VR and Metaverse experiences, will be interwoven with more traditional forms of representation and fruition to create an immersive and unique visitor experience.

By navigating this new cultural path, citizens and tourists will be able to better appreciate the rich heritage of Mantua and its major religious architectures.
