Terracorpo Castle, with its medieval origins and current main structure dating back to sixteenth and seventeenth-century modifications, has played a central role in the political, commercial, and administrative life of the surrounding territory for many centuries. The conservation and enhancement project led by the multidisciplinary team at the Unesco Research Lab begins by recognizing the value of the building’s material. Despite its composition and recomposition, marked by signs, wounds, and scars, the castle remains charming, full of memories, and still expressive. The goal is to protect what remains after centuries of accidents and neglect while ensuring the site’s usability and accessibility through minimal, reversible interventions.
The intervention strategy includes three phases:
1) preliminary safety measures;
2) conservation of coverings, decorative elements, along with structural consolidation and improvement;
3) enhancement interventions, including new volumes and accessibility connections.
